Description
It is the job of the traffic enforcement agent to help maintain
the steady flow of traffic and make the city safer for motorists and
pedestrians.They are also authorized to write summonses to improperly
parked vehicles.
Since summonses bring in hundreds of millions
of dollars in revenue each year for the city, their job is no longer
about public safety as they have become "tax collectors" for the city.
In
their race to fill their summons qoutas (productivity expectations) ,
officers often create hazards with their official vehicles while
writing summonses to civilians.
In this scene Jimmy Justice
witnesses a traffic enforcement agent double park while writing a
summons to a vehicle parked in a bus stop.
Although an exception
in NYC vehicle & traffic law permits them to violate the parking
statutes while actually engaged in their duties,it sets a very poor
example and creates a public safety hazard.
This case is
epecially egregious because there was plenty of room for the officer to
pull all the way to the side and not turn a major thoroughfare into an
obstacle course
